There is an awakening of women across Turtle Island who are feeling called to healing and change. The purpose of "Women in Wellbriety" is to connect women who have been through Wellbriety training or are living in Wellbriety, and to support them in creating healing and positive change for themselves, their families, their communities, and their Nations. "Women In Wellbriety" creates that space for women to come together.
With the growth of the Wellbriety Movement, we have seen a distinct need for women-specific healing. As Native women, we have endured, in our lifetimes, the highest rates of victimization of every kind of abuse and violence, more than any other race on Turtle Island. We also have a unique history because of the genocide tactics and boarding school traumas that were perpetuated against our mothers and grandmothers. We know we carry these with us in our cellular memory. Too many of us also experience the effects of these traumas in our high rates of addiction, depression, suicide, and inability to parent and deal with life in the healthy ways we practiced before the coming of the Europeans. But there is a gateway to healing from these traumas. "Women in Wellbriety" is committed to healing our many traumas in an integrated, holistic way.
To address the need for women's holistic healing and relearning traditional healthy life skills, White Bison developed the following Women-specific trainings and gatherings. These trainings provide women with specific interconnected healing knowledge as well as offering a common healing language to share with one another. They form the basis for the solidarity of "Women in Wellbriety."
